Burrs 2003

Summer Holiday 2003

We are back from camp!!! And what a weekend we had.
The weather was fantastic getting hotter over the weekend which made sure that we could all make the most of activities.

Wet and Wild!

When we arrived at Burrs Activity Centre we were getting ready canoeing. We put on our waterproof coats and life jackets and we pulled up to the canal with the boats. We joined the canoes together with rope and then put them on the water. We all got in and paddled together up the canal to a place where we could get out. The instructors turned the boats around and then we got back in them and paddled back.

When we returned from our canoe adventure we had a snack and carried the Kayaks to the training pool. The pool wasn’t very deep so we played games and then we got out and were allowed to go for a swim.

After lunch we went to get ready for abseiling. We put on our harnesses and helmets and went to the bridge. Most of us had a go at abseiling.

We went rock climbing after and we still had to wear our harnesses and helmets. We started by just walking around the wall and then we had a snack. After this we started to climb up the wall, you had to take it in turns to belay for each other. When we got better at climbing we had a go at going over the overhang but it was much harder than it looked.

We started off the day by preparing our tins for a craft later in the day. Then we left for a walk along the Irwell Scultpture Trail, we had to look out for things along the way.

When we got to Ramsbottom we enjoyed lunch before heading back by steam train to Bury.

The fun didn't stop there as we made tidy tins using natural materials and bird seed feeders.

What a camp!

Saturday night saw parachute games on the field and even more great crafts. We ended the evening watching a film whilst munching on toast, crumpets, and drinking hot chocolate.

Everyone (well nearly) got up bright and brezzy the following morning. We were going to go up Peel Tower but because it was so hot we had a change of plan. We packed up and went to Whittakar Park in Rawtenstall for games and fun. After a picnic lunch we had a look around the museum, everyone spent a long time looking at the stuffed animals!

We were sad to have to leave our camp and head off home at around 2. Back at base the leaders handed out the camp prizes to Kelsey (Wet and Wild) and Lauren (Arts and Nature).

A huge thanks to all the leaders and staff at Burrs!
